South East London’s art-rock shapeshifters Black Bordello have announced their long-awaited return with the release of their new single ‘Daddy’ , offering the first glimpse into their forthcoming third studio album, Midheaven Tempest, due in September 2026. The single is acompanied by a stunning new video.

Emerging in the wake of the pandemic, Black Bordello have built a reputation for their richly layered sonic identity—melding vaudeville, post-punk, jazz, psychedelia, gothic rock and chamber pop into something unmistakably their own. Fronted by the commanding soprano of Sienna Bordello, whose lyrical world leans toward the macabre and surreal, the band have drawn comparisons to boundary-pushing icons such as Björk, Kate Bush, and Siouxsie and the Banshees.

Produced by Balazs Altsach (known for his work alongside Paul Epworth at Church Studios) Midheaven Tempest is set to push the band’s sound further into trip-hop and industrial territory, while retaining their hallmark unpredictability and emotional depth.

The new single ‘Daddy’ exemplifies this evolution. Shifting between atmospheric restraint and visceral release, the track weaves together post-punk urgency, progressive rock flourishes and art-pop sensibility. It’s a challenging, dynamic composition that underscores the band’s refusal to settle into convention.

Speaking on the track, Sienna Bordello describes it as her most personal work to date:“‘Daddy’ is the most emotionally honest and difficult song I’ve ever written. It follows the processing of my father’s tragic death through theatre and surrealism. It is a ballad about my relationship to my own father, and how his absence has re-sculpted my identity. I was also thinking about the broader aspect of ‘The Father’ religiously and societally when I wrote the song.”

Since their debut, Black Bordello have garnered attention across publications including Clash and Wonderland, alongside airplay on BBC Radio 6 Music. Their growing profile has been further cemented by collaborations, including a remix with a member of Bauhaus, and a string of increasingly high-profile live appearances.

On stage, their reputation is equally formidable. The band have performed at international festivals such as Left of the Dial and New Colossus Festival, as well as sharing bills with acts like The Libertines, Goat Girl, Fat Dog and Pretty Sick.
