Southern retro-soul band Bonneville has officially released their highly anticipated second album, Flying Machine, a bold and soulful 9-track collection that blends vintage grooves with modern flair. Dropping on Independence Day, the album is a celebration of musical freedom and the enduring legacy of classic soul, funk, and R&B—reimagined through the band’s uniquely Southern lens.

Known for their funky retro-soul style, Bonneville has carved out a national following with their passion for preserving and reinterpreting the timeless sounds of the ‘70s. Flying Machine marks a major leap for the band, both sonically and thematically, weaving together influences from legends like Curtis Mayfield, Bobby Womack, and The Allman Brothers, while fearlessly exploring new territory inspired by Jamiroquai, Cymande, and modern electronic funk.

Behind the music is a deeply collaborative team: Hayashi (guitar, songwriting, co-production), Wes McGee (lead vocals, songwriting), Andy Dixon (bass), Brad Kuhn (keys), and Justin Holder (drums), with Starita (producer/engineer/synths) and Wes Sheffield (recording, mixing, mastering) helping shape the sound. Creative direction and photography were helmed by Tam Akiko.

The album, recorded at the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, reflects the band’s spiritual connection to the region’s rich musical history. The presence of Muscle Shoals legends and the FAME Gang throughout the record cements Flying Machine as both homage and innovation.

The band may have one foot in the past, but with Flying Machine, they are clearly charting a new course, full of soul, fire, and forward motion.
