Catalina Cara Releases Latest EP ‘What a Feeling’

Moldovan-Romanian alt-pop artist Catalina Cara unveils her highly anticipated 5-track EP, What a Feeling (out now), a cinematic exploration of grief, recovery, and renewal. Known for blending dreamy soul, ‘80s synth shimmer, and chill-step grooves into velvet hooks, Catalina expands her sonic universe with a project that is as intimate as it is expansive.

Following the lush textures of her debut EP Leap Year Baby (2022), What a Feeling marks a new creative phase, raw, soulful, and rooted in vulnerability. The EP’s title track, co-created in 2022 with producer Mihai Ristea and the late Casey Benjamin (two-time Grammy winner and former member of the Robert Glasper Experiment), anchors the record with its hypnotic blend of dream pop, R&B, and soul.

The title track’s lyrics draw inspiration from unexpected places, among them The New Seekers’ 70s hit “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing (In Perfect Harmony)”. Its echoes are heard in the line “I want to paint this world with love and sprinkle magic from above,” a mantra Catalina carried during the early days of the war in Ukraine, as loved ones in her own family were sent to the front.

Born out of a deeply personal chapter of silence and struggle, the EP unfolds as a journey through loss and healing, from the initial shock and numbness, through longing and despair, to a final sense of renewal. Each track mirrors a stage of that transformation, closing the door on Catalina’s inner battles and opening one filled with hope and rebirth.

“What a Feeling is a song I wanted people to experience as a warm embrace, offering them the time, safety, and peace to recover, along with a gentle reminder that we are not alone on our journey. It’s about rebirth, the freedom and beauty of sharing the light we discover within ourselves—a moment of emotional healing where we reclaim the inner energy and resources to give the world love and a touch of magic,” says Catalina.

What a Feeling not only honours her personal resilience but also reflects a broader longing for a kinder, more compassionate world.
