Prepare to immerse yourself in the spellbinding sonic realms of KIN TALA with their highly anticipated debut EP, ‘Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost.’ Seamlessly blending elements of indie-rock, electronic, and ambient genres, KIN TALA’s inaugural release represents a natural evolution of their alternative-indie sound.
Released on June 14th, ‘Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost’ solidifies the North West duo’s standing as a pivotal act to watch this year. Known for their distinctive style, KIN TALA crafts a musical landscape that captivates with its rich textures and emotive melodies.
The EP’s focus track, ‘Ocean Blues,’ stands as a quintessential example of TALA-esque storytelling. Praising, pondering, and lamenting, the song serves as an ode to honest communities, folk traditions, family bonds, and enduring friendships—both those left behind and those yet to come.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind ‘Ocean Blues,’ Shee shares, “We wrote this track back in 2014. I was listening to Mac Demarco's 'Salad Days' a lot at the time and the riff was heavily inspired by that record - lots of vibrato and chorus effects. I showed it to Dom and the whole song came together in about 20 minutes. We've rerecorded the track 4 or 5 times since then but in the end, returned to the earliest iteration of the song. This track means a lot to both of us and, on reflection, it's probably because this period was the ‘salad days’ of KIN TALA.”
‘Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost’ promises a journey through introspection and discovery, each track a testament to KIN TALA’s growth and artistic depth. From the ethereal expanses of ‘Ocean Blues’ to the layered sonic landscapes of other tracks on the EP, KIN TALA invites listeners to explore themes of nostalgia, identity, and the passage of time.
As anticipation builds for the release of their debut EP, KIN TALA continues to carve out a distinctive niche in the indie music scene. With their innovative approach and heartfelt storytelling, they are set to leave an indelible mark on listeners, offering a glimpse into their evolving musical journey and promising an unforgettable auditory experience.
