Composer, pianist, and singer/songwriter Marcus Anthony Mack releases his latest single “Unconquerable Soul,” taken from his upcoming album ‘Whatever Gods’, due for release on June 6th. The track is a deeply emotive and cinematic piece that blurs the lines between post-classical composition and ambient storytelling. With its haunting beauty and minimalist textures, the track serves as both a quiet rebellion against despair and a moving testament to the human spirit’s capacity to endure.
Rooted in gospel, R&B, and ambient traditions, Marcus crafts intimate, impressionistic, and timeless music that feels like memory. “Unconquerable Soul” begins with a four-bar piano loop, expanding gradually with melancholic vocals, textured harmonies, droning synths, and deep bass layers—each element building a soundscape that invites reflection and release.
“‘Unconquerable Soul’ is about the choice to keep going, even when it feels like the darkness has won,” says Marcus. “It’s the quiet voice within that insists, even in the darkest moments, that things will get better.”
Composed initially on an upright piano and developed with guitar effects and ambient production, the track showcases Marcus’s signature approach: minimalist yet emotionally potent, cinematic yet deeply personal. A Berklee College of Music graduate, Marcus Anthony Mack brings a storyteller’s sensitivity to all his work—from solo albums like Gilead to film scores for psychological thrillers and documentaries. Raised in the Black church, his roots in improvisation and spiritual connection remain ever-present in his compositions, where silence is as meaningful as sound.
