London-based alt-pop artist MADISON has built her sound on the collision of big pop hooks and cinematic scale, earning comparisons to the likes of Lady Gaga, Faouzia and Zara Larsson.
Originally from Australia, she’s since established an international creative network, working with Swedish producer Oliver Lundström and lending her voice to sync projects for Tencent and World Expo 2025 Osaka.
Her new single ‘Your Girl’, marks a lighter turn in her artistry and the beginning of a new campaign heading towards her debut EP. With influences ranging across pop, film scoring and cinematic storytelling clearly running through her own music, we asked Madison to share five tracks that have shaped her sound.
Born This Way - Lady Gaga - The album that made me realise pop music could be fearless, edgy, theatrical and still deeply meaningful.
Ceremonials - Florence + The Machine - Beautifully cinematic, emotional and unlike anything I'd heard before. It still inspires the scale and atmosphere I love creating.
1000 Forms of Fear - Sia - Incredible songwriting. Every song feels emotionally honest while still being commercially brilliant—it changed the way I thought about writing pop music.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) - Klaus Badelt & Hans Zimmer - Film scores have shaped my music just as much as pop. I remember teaching myself He's a Pirate on piano as a kid, then painstakingly recreating it in Finale before I even understood much music theory. It completely transported me into another world and made me fall in love with cinematic storytelling through music.
Home - The Chicks - I grew up listening to this album, and it's still one of my favourites. The storytelling, harmonies and emotional honesty had a huge impact on me long before I understood how songs were written. Looking back, I think it quietly shaped my love of narrative songwriting.
