Rising UK artist Reigns returns with “Made For,” the bold and emotionally-charged lead single from her forthcoming EP, ‘Approval Not Needed’. Known for her genre-bending fusion of soul, pop, and contemporary R&B, Reigns brings unapologetic lyricism and vocal prowess to the fore in what is arguably her most commanding release to date.
Following the viral success of her liquid drum and bass hit “Collateral Damage” and widespread radio support from BBC Radio 1, Kiss FM, Capital Radio, and SiriusXM, Reigns continues her upward ascent. Citing legends like Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin among her early influences, Reigns blends old-school soul with a modern pop sheen—her voice both visceral and vulnerable.
Co-written and produced with long-time collaborator Dee Adam (Kaiser Chiefs, Maribou State, KSHMR), “Made For” explores the internal conflict of a relationship built on physical desire but void of emotional compatibility. It’s the kind of raw subject matter Reigns delivers best: honest, unfiltered, and undeniably relatable.
“Made For delves into the emotional tension of a relationship built on physical chemistry but haunted by emotional incompatibility. It’s about that magnetic connection where your body says yes, but your heart knows better – a battle between logic and longing,” says Reigns.
Musically, “Made For” leans into nostalgic ’90s R&B textures—slinking drum loops, airy synths, and slick melodies—yet feels refreshingly current. Its origin story is equally captivating: written in under two hours on a train ride to London for a photoshoot, and recorded the very next day, it’s a product of pure creative instinct.
The new single sets the tone for the five-track EP Approval Not Needed, a powerful sonic diary of self-worth, evolution, heartbreak, and hope. Also featuring the haunting “Air” (co-written with Dee Adam and Passenger) and the reflective “Happy Ever After Us,” the project showcases Reigns’ refined artistry, forward-thinking production, and fearless storytelling.
With two mystery tracks set to drop as part of the campaign’s closing chapter, Approval Not Needed promises to solidify Reigns’ status as one of the most exciting voices in the UK’s soulful pop landscape.
