Shadow Flowers share dreamlike new single ‘Paraselene’

Southampton trio Shadow Flowers have unveiled a new track that combines heavy guitar music with a more cinematic sense of atmosphere.

“Paraselene” takes its name from a rare visual effect in which ice crystals create the impression of an additional moon in the night sky. The idea became a useful metaphor for songwriter Aaron Mills, who uses the track to examine the altered perspective created by grief and recollection.

Musically, the song is driven by overlapping guitars, repetition and shifting dynamics rather than straightforward aggression.

The single previews Blood Book, the group’s forthcoming first album. The record was made with producer Ian Davenport, with additional engineering and musical contributions from Steve Christie, before being mixed and mastered by Peter Fletcher.
