Taiwanese Producer Oberka Releases Latest Album ‘Regrow Protocol’

Taiwanese electronic music trailblazer Oberka has released his ambitious 10-track album Regrow Protocol, a daring sonic experiment that distils chaos into clarity, rhythm into rupture, and noise into narrative. The album’s title track and lead single, “Regrow Protocol”, is an explosive centrepiece that exemplifies the album’s core theme: destruction as a precursor to reinvention.

Crafted by Huang Shao Yong, the mind behind Oberka and founder of Taiwan's Dark Paradise Records, Regrow Protocol pushes electronic music into uncharted territory. Known for his genre-blurring, sample-heavy style, Oberka seamlessly weaves elements of techno, bassline, glitch, and world instrumentation into a volatile yet magnetic soundscape.

“This track started out as a playful experiment,” says Oberka, reflecting on the origin of the title single. “But the moment it came together, I knew it would become one of the key singles for the new album.” What began as a live session in a Hong Kong hotel room with chopped pig “oinks” layered under gamelan and balafon loops evolved into a full-force sonic assault. The final version, reworked in 2025 with warped vocal chops and deep rhythmic tension, captures the essence of Oberka’s approach: daring, unpredictable, and intensely alive.

Built over nearly a year, Regrow Protocol is Oberka’s most refined and conceptually rich project to date. Initially conceived during improvised live sessions in early 2024, the album fuses long-form demo recordings, experimental sampling, and fragmented rhythms into a body of work that explores the collapse and reconstruction of musical forms.

Each track, from the glitch-heavy “Frog” to the experimental sampling of “Please Remember,” represents a different chapter in a sonic ecosystem where nothing remains static. The album pulses with dark energy, exploring raw textures while inviting listeners to decode its cryptic beauty.

Oberka is the electronic music project of Huang Shao Yong, a Taiwanese producer known for merging avant-garde experimentation with emotive accessibility. His music is a collage of textures, cultures, and ideas, constantly shape-shifting, yet unmistakably his own. When he’s not creating under the Oberka moniker, he collaborates with Mandarin-language artists across Asia and nurtures talent through his indie imprint, Dark Paradise Records.
