Following the release of the critically praised album The Art of Breaking Hearts, singer-songwriter Celestial Skies (aka Chris Selman) returns with a mellow, heart-on-sleeve new single, “Undercover Lovers”.

A wistful indie ballad built on gentle guitar work, raw honesty, and seasoned songwriting, “Undercover Lovers” continues the emotional thread woven throughout Selman’s latest record—a rich exploration of love, loss, and self-reflection. The track is equal parts vulnerable and self-aware, pulling listeners into an intimate, confessional soundscape that feels both universal and deeply personal.

“It’s a reflective song about the art of romance,” Selman explains. “About falling for the wrong people, or leading people on when I’m not actually interested—just chasing attention. It’s written like an advice note to myself, but it’s one I still keep ignoring.”

“Undercover Lovers” was recorded at Manchester’s Blueprint Studios, a space familiar to Chris and his long-time musical collaborators, friends and fellow musicians he’s worked with for over a decade. The result is a warm, lived-in sound that lets Selman’s thoughtful lyricism take centre stage while evoking the echo of late-night conversations and long walks home.

Before taking on the name Celestial Skies, Chris Selman had already built a quiet reputation as a compelling songwriter, releasing under monikers Words & Noises and his own name. His music has been championed by BBC 6Music, Channel 4, NME, and The Guardian, and supported by regional BBC stations across Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, and Merseyside.

Since the release of his debut album Songs For Blue Romantics in 2022, which garnered support from tastemaker titles like Wonderland, Notion, and Rollacoaster, Chris has cemented his position as one of the UK’s most quietly consistent and lyrically eloquent indie voices.

With “Undercover Lovers”, Celestial Skies delivers a hauntingly honest reminder that even the most beautiful hearts sometimes break themselves.
