Interview - My Autumn Amor

My Autumn Amor is a singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, California. As a genre-bending music artist, he emerges as a true visionary, blending clever lyricism with fuzzy guitars to create an enlightened rock sound.

We had a conversation with My Autumn Amor regarding the release, his future plans, and the reasons you should listen to his music. Check it out here at IGNITE!

Hey My Autumn Amor, how are you doing?

I'm doing well, busy writing new songs, screenplays, and novels.

Who are your main influences as an artist?

Pixies, Mitski, Yeule, Bowie, Lennon.

Sum up your music for us in three words?

Spontaneous humanitarian pop

What's your biggest highlight as an artist so far?

I got to write and perform the score in a theatrical production of Anton Chekhov's play Uncle Vanya.

How have friends and family reacted to your journey so far in music?

Wow, your music is actually really good, why aren't you more well known?

Congratulations on the release of your new EP 'Mermaid Blood'. We're loving it! How did it come about and what’s the meaning and/or message behind the project?

Recently, I was cast as Telegin in Anton Chekhov's play Uncle Vanya, and double tasked with composing the original score. I decided to imagine what songs Telegin would write if he was a modern singer-songwriter witnessing the love tetrahedral in the play. The message behind the music is to have the courage to follow your heart and your dreams while you're still here. Life is precious and more satisfying when you have the courage to go on your own journey.

What was the recording and writing process like for this song?

The first line comes directly from the play Uncle Vanya when he's trying to get Yelena to have a love affair with him. I put a microphone in the centre of my live-in studio and recorded one take of vocals and acoustic guitar. Then I played all the other instruments in separate tracks. The best part was picking up the new Epiphone SG Special Satin E1. The duel humbucker through my Marshall amp really made for hot crunchy electric guitar tones. It was everything I hoped for, and love at first sight.

How would you describe this song sonically for our readers?

An exhilarating call to love, to follow the siren into the sea, and damn the consequences.

What are your plans for the rest of 2024? What can fans expect?

Right now I'm submitting to agents to represent a screenplay and soundtrack I've completed for an anime rock movie. It's set in a dystopian future and has some great songs and collaborations. When I get the movie produced, the soundtrack will come out, and I plan to tour theatres in the U.S., Europe, the U.K., and Japan, with a shadow cast of actors. If you know a good agent who represents screenplays and novels, send them my way!
