Acclaimed genre-bending artist and storyteller Lydia the Bard returns with “Die for Me (Wendy’s Villain Song)”, released ahead of her debut album ‘The Woods’, out October 11th. The track is the latest instalment in her beloved Villain Series, which has captivated millions worldwide with its dark twists on iconic fairy-tale heroines. Known for blending musical theatre dramatics with folk, jazz, and cinematic flourishes, Lydia continues to redefine how stories can be told through song.
Following the viral success of “Fall little Wendy Bird Fall” (11M+ views on YouTube), Lydia now turns the spotlight back to Wendy Darling, reimagined not as the innocent girl from Neverland, but as a resurrected, vengeful villain. The track unfolds Wendy’s transformation into a corrupted figure, hell-bent on killing Peter Pan so he can remain hers forever.
“Die for Me” opens with an upright bass line and jazz-inspired verse melodies, echoing the playful scatting of vintage torch songs. But the choruses explode with Lydia’s signature cinematic intensity, co-written and arranged with long-time collaborator Tony Halliwell. The result is a theatrical, angry, and powerful piece that pulls listeners deep into the story’s twisted world.
Every Villain Series release comes to life with a visual companion, and this track is no exception. Lydia partnered with renowned animatic artist Lazyeule to craft a haunting video that sees Wendy chasing Peter Pan through Neverland in a surreal, villainous love-hunt.
Lydia shares: “Die for Me is a song for a villainous reimagining of the character Wendy from Peter Pan. I wanted to give it a vintage feel with jazz-inspired verses but balance that with big, modern choruses that really bring out the fury and theatricality of her transformation.”
With over 600k YouTube subscribers and racking up millions of streams across Spotify, Lydia the Bard has built a world where classic characters find new life in darkly imaginative ways. This release also marks the beginning of a new villain trilogy, dropping throughout September, leading into her highly anticipated debut album ‘The Woods’, out October 11th.
