Bozeman, Montana-based bedroom-pop artist delivers his most vulnerable and sonically refined work to date: We had the opportunity to sit down and talk influences that shaped this duo release…
Ask Isaac Winemiller what he’s listening to and the answer says as much about his own music as anything else might. Folk confessionals, Daft Punk-produced pop, melancholic Coldplay deep cuts, and warm tape hiss from close friends all factor into a list that traces the same line between intimacy and warmth that runs through his own songwriting. Here, the Bozeman-based artist behind ‘In this Light’ walks us through the five tracks that shaped him…
Kathy's Song by Simon and Garfunkel
I love the simplicity of this song : one guitar, one voice. Lyrically, I love how melancholy, romantic, honest, and confessional it feels. I love the imagery of rain how he personifies and relates to the rain. And just the way he's thinking about his love, it' sjust so romantic, I don't know. It just gets me every time. It makes me feel like I was living in Paul Simon's shoes when he wrote the song. Also it has very warm/satisfying analog production.
I Feel It Coming by the Weekend
Mainly love this song because Daft Punk produced it. Huge daft punk fan. It's just good clean pop in my opinion. I don't believe in "guilty pleasures". If it sounds and feels good, it's good!
Warning Sign by Coldplay
I'll always love this song and album. Very formative for me during the earlier developmental years of my life (ages 8-16). Used to feel a lot of stuff to this song & it held my unexplainable sadness in a way nothing else could at the time. Mega sad boy hours, haha.
Misread by Kings of Convenience
Love how simply and well the elements of the track work together, a couple guitars, sparse strings and piano, and two vocals. Love how their voices and guitar parts intertwine so effortlessly. Also, I love how moody and melancholy the tune is. It just makes me feel reflective & warm.
Nihilist Kite Flyer by Loving
I'm actually good friends with David and Jesse of Loving. This song has helped me get through some pretty deep depression & just makes me feel less alone. Love David's warm analog tape production too. Warbly and warm.
