Following the release of RISE UP ENGLAND (WE WILL NEVER SURRENDER) - RADIO EDIT, we spoke with the brains behind this epic anthem, IMPACT SOUND LAB

At its core, ‘Rise Up England (We Shall Never Surrender)’ is more than a football song. It is a celebration of heritage, perseverance, community and belief—a reminder that hope, pride and unity remain as powerful as ever when supporters stand together behind their team.

“‘Rise Up England (We Shall Never Surrender)’ is a rock anthem born of heart and tradition, meant to inspire and celebrate England’s pursuit of football glory on the world stage. My father introduced me to poetry at an early age and served England in both the Royal Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He would tell me stories of England’s greatest sporting triumph in 1966. This song is my tribute to him, and to every player who has proudly worn the Three Lions crest.”

To understand the unique influences that shaped this exciting new project and the passion behind England’s football history, let’s go back and look at songwriter and producer David Matheson (producer, mixer and multi-instrumentalist)’s top picks!

Unbreak My Heart – by Toni Braxton.

Incredible voice, deep, sultry, androgynous. A true contralto. Emotes such pain it hurts. Hats off to Dianne Warren for writing something truly special.

Underneath Your Clothes – by Shakira.

From her English debut, Laundry Service. I mean, why not. “You're a song written by the hands of God.” What an opening line! And so beautiful! The golden locks. Sultry video. And that Spanish temperament. I fell in love immediately.

Cruel World - by Lana Del Rey

Basically, anything by Lana del Rey. But Cruel World is a gem. "Share my body and my mind with you.”  Another killer opening line. I could smoke a joint and listen to Ultraviolence forever.

Ambleside - by David Jane.

A wonderfully written five minutes of pure unadulterated sentiment. Being released in July. I’ve seen the video, filmed in Vancouver. You’re in for a treat.

Sick on You - by Andrew Matheson and the Hollywood Brats

Game changer. Altered the course of music. Not many can say that. God rest his soul.
