Norwich quartet Takeda have released their debut album In Venus’ Train, out now on Drongo Records. The record is a striking first statement from a band unafraid to balance fragility with force, weaving folkloric mysticism and biblical allusion into a sound that shifts between hushed intimacy and explosive catharsis.
Produced by David Pye (Szun Waves, Trudy & the Romance, Faithless, Dido), the album explores themes of obsession, grief, and transformation. Its songs unfold with both the melodic detail of British folk and the sheer weight of alternative rock, pulling equally from the traditions of Fairport Convention and the heaviness of Tool. At points, the music recalls the stark lyricism of Nick Drake, before bursting into the unruly, fuzz-drenched territory of Pile.
For frontman Josh Harrison, the record reflects both personal upheaval and creative rebirth:“I wrote the album during a period of massive change in my life, losing touch with my family and friends, and rediscovering my own inner self.
I began writing about characters and narratives that, on the surface, felt separate from me. Yet through them, I found a way to look deeper into myself. Some of these figures emerged from folklore, others from scripture, and others still from my own imagination. Despite their varied origins, they each carried a kind of inner light—one that helped me reflect, process, and better understand the truths I was writing about.”
Takeda are currently touring In Venus’ Train across the UK in support of it's release. A raw, poetic, and powerful debut that establishes the band as a compelling and creative talent, the album showcases the bands unique blend of folk aesthetics and grungey rock tones.
