Brett Badner Captures the Bittersweet End of Summer on New Single ‘where did summer go?’

New York-based pop artist, songwriter and producer Brett Badner reflects on fleeting memories and the bittersweet end of summer with his latest single, ‘where did summer go?’, a nostalgic, guitar-driven pop track written and produced entirely from his bedroom.
Blending warm acoustic guitars, polished production and emotionally direct songwriting, the single captures the feeling of watching a seemingly endless summer disappear. Drawing comparisons to Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes, Niall Horan and Conan Gray, Badner balances infectious pop melodies with reflections on freedom, romance and the passing of time.
“where did summer go? is about nostalgia and fleeting moments—the feeling of wanting time to slow down as something perfect slips away,” Badner explains.
The inspiration arrived in early August, when Badner found himself sitting on the edge of his bed with a guitar, already dreading the end of summer. What began as an intimate acoustic idea soon developed into a full pop production, influenced by the work of producers Max Martin and Ryan Tedder.
Demonstrating his versatility as an independent artist, Badner wrote, produced, recorded, mixed and mastered the entire track himself, layering acoustic and electric guitars, bass, drums, percussion and synth pads to create its polished, energetic sound.
The release also marks an evolution in his songwriting, exploring the emotional weight of memories and the realisation that moments we wish could last forever often pass before we appreciate them.
With ‘where did summer go?’, Brett Badner delivers a relatable slice of nostalgic pop, capturing the universal desire to hold onto the moments that disappear all too quickly.
