Mali Mae has returned with “Making Me Cry”, a new song about the emotional weight of trying to meet the expectations of the people you love.

The London singer-songwriter describes the track as a reflection on guilt, loneliness and the fear of being seen as a burden, with the writing focused on feelings that are often difficult to say directly.

Musically, the song brings together piano, bass and layered guitars, allowing the arrangement to grow alongside the tension in the lyrics.

The release marks the beginning of a new phase for Mali, whose earlier career included classical training, violin performance and study at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Her forthcoming EP YOU’RE JUST MAKING ME CRY will contain five tracks and continue exploring music as a way of processing personal experiences.
