British pop newcomer Yasmin makes a striking entrance with her debut single “Bummer”, a bittersweet pop track that strips away the glossy filter from picture-perfect summers. Written after a string of nights out in June, the song channels Yasmin’s own experiences with body image, self-perception, and the quiet weight of trying to “look perfect” in a world that’s always watching.
Blending airy, addictive pop melodies with a core of vulnerability, “Bummer” speaks to a generation navigating curated happiness under the pressures of Instagram summers. Yasmin explains:
“Bummer is introducing my sound to the world. It’s catchy, but it also reflects the reality of what this generation faces in order to have a so-called ‘good summer.’ There’s pressure to tick every box — happiness, relationships, friendships, money — and it’s unrealistic. Social media makes it worse. I want this song to remind people it’s okay to overthink before and during the season. It’s normal.”
After years of moving between London, Dubai, Paris, and LA, acquiring a law degree and building up a sizable social media following as a TikTok streamer along the way. Yasmin has honed a sound she describes as sad girl pop with soft rebellion, music for 20-something women who feel everything deeply but are expected to hide it behind a smile. “Bummer” marks her first step into a sonic world built on honesty, contradiction, and unfiltered emotion.
With its dreamy yet melancholic energy, “Bummer” is a statement of intent for the up-and-coming pop artist. Summer might be for sunshine and smiles, but Yasmin’s here to remind us there’s beauty in telling the truth.
