Alysha Reframes Faith Through Alternative Pop on ‘Take It or Leave It’

London-based artist Alysha leans into a darker sonic palette on ‘Take It or Leave It’, a brooding blend of goth, new wave and electronic pop that places themes of faith, temptation and personal boundaries against a distinctly nocturnal backdrop. Co-produced with Matt Rist, the track is driven by shadowy synths, atmospheric electronics and gothic tension, marking a confident step into a more alternative chapter of Alysha’s sound.
What sets ‘Take It or Leave It’ apart is its unconventional treatment of spirituality. Rather than drawing from the gospel, R&B or country traditions often associated with Christian music, Alysha filters her perspective through dark electronics and alternative production, even incorporating the provocative symbolism of 666 to challenge expectations and invite conversation. The result is a track that uses genre as a way of reframing a familiar subject rather than reinforcing convention.
That instinct to move between worlds has shaped Alysha’s development since she began writing songs at 10. The Cuban-Indian Londoner has built a diverse musical vocabulary spanning R&B, alternative pop, church gospel and artists ranging from Joss Stone and Lauryn Hill to Siouxsie & The Banshees. Following her 2020 EP Midnight Rendezvous and a creative rebrand in 2023, she has increasingly embraced a more mature and experimental direction, with tracks such as ‘Lord, Help Me’ and ‘Finer Things’ expanding her profile.
With more than 3 million Spotify streams, festival appearances at Wild Paths and Forwards, and performances alongside Greentea Peng, Hak Baker and The Jesus & Mary Chain, Alysha is continuing to build momentum across both the alternative and pop spaces. Her upcoming support dates with LANY across Japan and South Korea further extend that trajectory. ‘Take It or Leave It’ finds an artist becoming increasingly assured in her ability to connect contrasting influences, turning an unconventional subject into a compelling piece of contemporary alternative pop.
