With his debut album Reverie, Beijing-based producer and songwriter RVRIE delivers an immersive collection that explores memory, identity, and the complicated pull of nostalgia. Blending ambient pop, alternative rock, and cinematic production, the project feels deeply personal without becoming overly introspective, balancing emotional vulnerability with a strong sense of musical ambition. Beneath its expansive soundscapes lies a foundation of thoughtful songwriting, shaped by RVRIE's classical piano background and keen ear for atmosphere.

The album's lead single, "Dark Waters," stands out as one of its most compelling moments. Inspired by the haunting imagery of Death Stranding, the track transforms nostalgia into something darker and more consuming, capturing the feeling of being pulled back into memories you can't quite escape. Rich textures, subtle tension, and contributions from bassist Tim Lefebvre and saxophonist Nathan Gao give the song an organic depth that pushes it beyond conventional alternative pop territory.

What makes Reverie particularly engaging is its willingness to sit with difficult emotions rather than simply romanticise them. RVRIE treats nostalgia as both a comfort and a burden, creating a record that feels reflective, cinematic, and ultimately cathartic. It's an impressive debut that showcases not only his production skills but also his ability to translate personal experiences into something listeners can connect with on a broader level.
