Portland-based producer FENRA is making an impressive entrance with his debut EP, 'Delusional'. Already earning nods from tastemakers like Magnetic Magazine, CLASH, and Electronic Groove, the project confirms that FENRA, the electronic moniker of B Laws, is an artist to watch in 2025.
The EP’s focus track, “CHICAGO,” immediately grabs attention with its footwork-inspired breakbeats, shimmering pads, and choral vocal samples that give the track a euphoric, cinematic lift. Fans of Fred again.., Bicep, and Catching Flies will find plenty to love in the track’s combination of rhythmic drive and emotional depth. Meanwhile, previously released singles “COFFEE” and “DEEPCUT” showcase FENRA’s range, from ambient, dulcimer-laced downtempo to restless, kinetic shuffling house, all polished to perfection by mastering engineer Aneek Thapar (Rival Consoles, Max Cooper).
“I knew from the beginning that I wanted to explore dance music in my own way, weaving in found sounds, ASMR textures, and strings. I started each song from that place, building an atmosphere and mood with a pallet of sounds collected from everyday life. From there I went into the studio with drum machines and synths and the songs grew more dramatic than I first expected.”
Born in Santa Rosa, California, and steeped in musical exploration from church hymns to international touring bands, B Laws channels a lifetime of sonic curiosity into FENRA. Drawing inspiration from Caribou, Four Tet, Bonobo, and the minimalist elegance of Philip Glass, the producer crafts tracks that feel both personal and expansive, bridging the club-ready with the contemplative.
Delusional is a striking introduction, balancing intricate production, emotive melodies, and genre-blurring ambition. With its blend of cinematic textures, footwork energy, and soulful undertones, FENRA’s debut EP signals a producer whose artistry is poised to resonate far beyond Portland’s electronic scene.
