Swedish-born, LA-based producer and composer Olovson returns with UNTANGLE, a sophomore album that sees him stepping fully into the spotlight as a vocalist while maintaining the cinematic elegance that has defined his work. Where his debut Storytelling showcased his emotive piano compositions, UNTANGLE expands into a lush, genre-defying soundscape, melding ambient electronica, lo-fi R&B, and jazz-inflected piano with experimental textures that feel simultaneously intimate and expansive.

The album opens with THINGS I COULD’VE LEFT BEHIND, a tender exploration of holding onto past burdens, before guiding the listener through a journey of emotional release and quiet reflection. Highlights such as RIVER illustrate Olovson’s mastery of balance: hazy, R&B-tinged production entwines with intricate sonic details, while his soft, deliberate vocal performance carries a sense of contemplative vulnerability. The accompanying self-directed stop-motion video reinforces the album’s themes of letting go, using simple, tactile imagery to mirror the music’s reflective depth.

Olovson’s background in composing for luminaries like Frank Ocean and Dua Lipa is evident in his precise, layered arrangements, yet UNTANGLE remains intensely personal. Each track feels like a chapter in a narrative of transformation, from the weight of unresolved baggage to the quiet solace of acceptance, culminating in the gentle optimism of FLOWERS TOLD ME SO. Fans of James Blake, Sampha, and Blood Orange will find much to admire here: a sound that is emotionally charged, technically exacting, and profoundly human.

“The album takes you from track 1 (‘THINGS I COULD’VE LEFT BEHIND’) you've held on to baggage and it's too heavy to carry any longer so you make the decision to face it and put down your baggage. all the way to the last track (‘FLOWERS TOLD ME SO’) where nature, which has been here forever way longer than us, gives us peace in telling us everything will move on, everything will grow again, everything is moving on and so should you.”

With UNTANGLE, Olovson proves himself not just a skilled composer but a storyteller capable of translating introspection into immersive, multi-dimensional music. It’s an album that lingers, inviting repeated listens to fully untangle its layered, delicate beauty.
